Generation Opportunity – Koch Brother Owned Group Seeking to Stop “Obamacare”
Koch Owned “Generation Opportunity” Bashes Obamacare in New Ad
A non-for-profit political group seeks to gain supporters who are against “Obamacare” by catering to the youth. October 1st is the official kickoff for the Affordable Care Act according to the White House, just a couple of weeks away. While the threats of a government shut down continue, one thing is for certain, the GOP wants “Obamacare” to fail. A recent video emerged on the internet that shows Uncle Sam getting ready to “stick it” (Obamacare) up a patients rear at the doctor’s office.
Generation Opportunity is a group that is owned by the Koch brothers whose specific goal is to cater to the youth in America. They have an official facebook page called Being American but what followers might not know is that this is Koch backed organization. Every news article is directed toward a younger crowd while simultaneously attempting to scare people about the ACA.
The Generation Opportunity website is full of slogans and memes which aim to devalue and tarnish the image of health coverage with “Obamacare”. “Obamacare is a bad deal,” is on their main page along with many other factually inferior pieces of information catering to talking points. This page is meant to get people rallied and fired up about the “evil government” wanting to provide healthcare for Americans.
In recent news, GO is actually telling people they are better off going uninsured than using “Obamacare”. Apparently, the non-profit organization funded by the Koch brothers is trying to stir up the pot with their new television ad. This group is desperately trying to gain support with events such as free pizza and tailgate parties so that they can rally against the ACA.
The President of Generation Opportunity, Evan Feinberg, stated in an interview, “You might have to pay a fine, but that’s going to be cheaper for you and better for you.” This was his response to the notion that the slogan “You don’t have to sign up for Obamacare” actually implies that you are not required to get health insurance.
A recent poll showed that the efforts of groups like Generation Opportunity are in vain by showing that healthy young adults are likely to get health insurance through the ACA. Dean Clancy the Vice President of Public Policy with FreedomWorks stated,”We’re trying to make it socially acceptable to skip the exchange.” FreedomWorks is another political group which is also connected to the Koch brothers.
Generation Opportunity is specifically targeting people below the age of 35 because they want to decrease that age group. The ACA needs that demographic to get health insurance in order to balance out the premiums for everyone. FreedomWorks has been passing out fliers that say, “If not enough people enroll, the Exchanges will fail. If the Exchanges fail, Obamacare fails.” The fliers also encourage readers to put signs in their yard that say, “refuse to enroll”.
The owners of this group, the Koch brothers, are using it in an attempt to take down “Obamacare”. In case you aren’t familiar with who the Koch brothers really are, I am providing a brief history of their role in U.S. politics.
One of the movements that has been started by the Koch brothers is the Tea Party. The Koch brothers are one of the top ten polluters in the U.S., have a combined net worth of $50 billion, and they received almost $100 million in government contracts which were mostly from the department of defense.
These are the type of people who are corrupting our political system and it is no wonder why they “support” the GOP. More deregulation means more money for their industry which is why they oppose environmental issues. In my opinion, they don’t even actually care about the Tea Party movement. As long as the masses are debating each other over who has the correct political agenda, the Koch brothers are making money.
Groups like FreedomWorks, Generation Opportunity, and even the Tea Party are merely tools used by the Koch brothers to obtain even more money. The Koch brothers have already spent millions of dollars to spread lies about the Affordable Care Act. They have had their hands in politics since the 1980′s and it doesn’t appear that they will be opting out anytime soon.
Average Ameicans have nothing in common with the Koch brothers, so why would anyone think that they would have your best interests in mind? Clearly they have become two of the wealthiest Americans and it appears that their hand in politics has allowed them to expedite this feat. Does anyone honestly believe that the reason for their involvement in politics is simply out of passion – and not money? Me neither.
